To convert the scenic Wyra reservoir, located about 24 km from Khammam town, into a major tourist spot, the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) has set up a boat ride facility.

Two six-seater speedboats are in service in the reservoir to provide an exciting boating experience for tourists.

The Middle Wyra Irrigation Scheme was constructed across the Wyra River during the reign of the Nizam. This project is the source of livelihood for farmers in Wyra, Thallada and Bonakalmandals as it irrigates around 25,000 acres of farmland in the three mandals. It is a major source of subsistence for many fishermen and a great source of drinking water.

Minister of Prohibition and Excise, Sports and Youth Services, Tourism, Culture and Archeology V. SrinivasGoud along with Minister of Transport Puvvada Ajay Kumar on Sunday inaugurated the navigation unit. He also unveiled an indoor stadium, which cost Rs. 89 lakh in the mandal headquarters city of Wyra.

Mr SrinivasGoud said another large boat will soon be in service to attract tourists to the scenic spot.

An open sports hall and various sports facilities will also be created in the town of Wyra in addition to the stadium’s badminton court.
